Lot Essay

Carrier-Belleuse originally designed two versions of this model in 1880, this being the more complex of the two (the version vase orné). See M. Beunet and R. Préaud, Sèvres des origines à nos jours, Fribourg, 1978, p. 301, no. 415 for a fond blanc example of this form. For other examples of this form and technique see B. Ducrot, Sèvres, une histoire céramique; Second Empire & IIIe Republique, Paris, 2008, p. 123.
