Along with the 'Eye' poster, this 'Star Child' poster design was first produced for the 1969, 70 mm re-launch of 2001: A Space Odyssey in New York. This campaign was the first to use the tagline "The Ultimate Trip". This poster was primarily used for wild-posting (i.e. sticking on building sites, etc.). The 'Star Child' design proved so popular that it was retained as the film's principal image for subsequent re-releases in 1972 and 1974.
