Poetry, Persian manuscript on paper, 242ff. as numbered plus two fly-leaves, each folio with 29ll. of black naskh script arranged in four columns, headings in red, title page with heading in larger naskh script and first 28ff. with double red intercolumnar rule, final folio a later replacement, second half of the manuscript with significant waterstaining, in brown morocco with flap and central stamped and gilt medallion, doublures with small knotted stamped and gilt motifs

Lot Essay

The text of the Mathnavi is complete, short of only four couplets and those are written in the added folio. The rest of the text (verses) in the added folio, according to the heading, are from Sultan Valad (d. 1312 AD), the son and the successor of Jalal al-Din Muhammad.
