Lot Essay

The father of the present author, Amir Husam al-Din Lajin al-Mansuri (d. 1337-8 AD) was the governor of the countryside of Damascus (Wali al-Barr) between in AH 698. He is the author of Tuhfat al-mujahidin fi al-'amal bi al-mayadin, on cavalry tactics (mayadin). His son and author of the present work, Muhammad bin Lajin al-Husami al-Tarabulsi al-Rammah is the author of another treatise on mayadin, Bughyat al-qasidin bi al-'amal fi al-mayadin, written for Sayf al-Din 'Ashiqtimur al-Mardini, governor of Aleppo (d. 1389 AD) (Gulru Necipoglu, Frontiers of Islamic Art and Architecture: Essays in celebration of Oleg Grabar, Muqarnas, Vol.XXV, p.326)
