Lot Essay

Robert Ferguson (1846-1915) was one of the famous early Scottish professionals who won the Open three times in succession, first at Musselburgh in 1880, within sight of the house where he was born in 1848, then at Prestwick and then St. Andrews. He, with Jamie Anderson, were the outstanding players, after the era of the Morris family.
