Specialist note

Under the influence of Rodman Wanamaker, a department store magnate, the P.G.A. of America was founded in 1916. This is the programme for the inaugural championship held 'at Van Cortlandt Park New York City July 18th and 19th 1916 ... under the auspices of the New York Newspaper Golf Club'. The result could not have been closer, James M. Barnes beating Jock Hutchison by one hole in the matchplay format.
