Cylindrical, with applied lower bands beneath a baroque cartouche engraved with a coat-of-arms, with double scrolled handle, the flat-domed cover with applied lion couchant thumbpiece, marked on body, cover and handle

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Borrow impaling Burton for Isaac Borrow Esq. of Hulland, Derbyshire and his second wife, Honora, daughter of Thomas Burton, Esq. and eventual sole heiress of her brother Robert Burton. He was mayor of Derby in 1730 and 1742.
