Lot Essay

Buddy Rogers was born Herman Rohde (1921-1992) and was a professional American wrestler. He was the first professional wrestler to hold both the WWWF Championship and the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. In the 1960s Blake painted a series of wrestling pictures, including The Masked Zebra Kid, 1965 (Tate collection) and Kid McCoy, 1961-65 (private collection).
