The carved wood base modelled as rockwork and decorated overall in gold lacquer, with a group of four detachable turtles, one with it's young, finely modelled in silver, fitted wood box

The box cover is inscribed:

Seki jo kame odana kazari [shelf ornament of turtles on rocks]
The first cargo of the New Year of 1918.
I am granted this as a memento of the Emperor Taisho on 14th April 1927.

Sakamaki Yoshio.

Sakamaki Yoshio was born in Tokyo in Meiji 23rd (1890) and entered the Imperial Household Agency in 1914.
