A Lacquer and Shibayama Inlaid Tebako [Accessory Box]
Meiji Period (late 19th century)
In the form of interlocking fan-shaped panels, the box and cover decorated in gold hiramaki-e, togidashi-e and nashiji and inlaid in Shibayama style in mother-of-pearl, coral, stained ivory and tortoiseshell with cranes beside a stream amongst pine and flowers, bamboo and plum blossom, the sides with floral roundels and geometric patterns, the interior with a tray depicting Buddhistic emblems on a kinji ground, silver rims
