Lot Essay

A very similar example of this model of clock was donated to the Louvre by S. de Rothschild and is illustrated in Pierre Verlet, Les Bronzes Dorés Français de XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1987, p. 41. Verlet mentions various other related clocks to the present lot, including one made for Louis XVI at Versailles.
