Lot Essay

Whilst holidaying near Biôt with a cousin, Eulalie Monod, a glass-blower who had married into a local family, de Glehn became entranced by the play of flickering light between the trees, which he used to frame his composition in the foreground, contrasted with the dazzling sunlight illuminating the medieval hillside town across an expansive landscape beyond.
