Lot Essay
Saintin debuted at the Paris Salon of 1848 where he was awarded medals in 1866, 1870 and 1886 including France's highest honour, Chevalier de la Lgion d'honneur. The current lot depicts a Parisian Bouquetiere welcoming the viewer into the doorway of her flower shop. From about 1857 until 1863 Saintin worked in America and exhibited frequently at the National Academy of Design in New York, where he was elected an associate in 1861.
