Lot Essay

Dr. Stephen Pepper confirmed the attribution in the 1994 sale catalogue, dating the painting to the late 1630s. Pepper further suggested that the present painting may be the work of the same size recorded in the 1693 Roman inventory of Cardinal Flavio Chigi's collection at the Palazzo a Piazza SS.
