LATE NEW KINGDOM TO THIRD INTERMEDIATE PERIOD, 1292-945 B.C.
Depicted mummiform, the arms crossing the chest, the fisted hands emerging from within the vestment, holding a hoe in each, a seed sack over each shoulder, wearing a multi-strand broad collar and a striated tripartite wig, with seven rows of hieroglyphs inscribed on the body, reading: "Instructions of the Osiris Justified An-iA, He says: O ye shabti," followed by a form of the standard shabti text from Chapter 6 of The Book for the Dead

Lot Essay

The name An-ia is not listed in Ranke, Die ägyptischen Personennamen, but the ending, -iA, is known from several officials, including anan-iA and apr-iA. The -iA ending is thought to be a transcription of the Semitic "El," and likely derives from the Hurrian component in the Syro-Canaanite population active in Egypt at this time (see p. 268 in Kozloff, Amenhotep III, Egypt's Radiant Pharaoh).
