A LUCANIAN RED-FIGURED BELL-KRATER
ATTRIBUTED TO THE ARNO PAINTER, CIRCA 400-375 B.C.
The obverse with nude youthful Herakles standing left with short curly hair, his club in the crook of his right arm, his left hand gesturing toward winged Nike standing before him wearing a belted peplos with a dark border and a beaded necklace, her wings upraised, presenting the hero with a laurel crown, two sprigs in the field, dotted ovolo above; the reverse with two draped youths, a dotted fillet hanging in between, a tendril below; meander and saltire squares encircling below, laurel below the rim, enhanced with a red wash, radiating lines around the handle-roots, palmettes and tendrils below the handles
