AN ETRUSCAN POTTERY DUCK LEKANIS
CIRCA 4TH CENTURY B.C.
Resembling an askos, on a tall flaring foot, the body divided along the wing-line, the upper section serving as the lid, with a slender neck, the head projecting forward, with large circular eyes and raised pupils, the bill upturned at the end, the mouth ajar, two vessel mouths positioned on its back, with hatching along the rims, the mouth above the tail feathers open through to the interior, its wings modelled along the chest, with painted details for the feathers
