COS D'ESTOURNEL

Cos d'Estournel is named after its 19th century owner, Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel. The word "Cos" derives from Gascogne tongue, meaning "hill of pebbles". In 1917 the property was purchased by Fernand Ginestet, whose daughter Arlette married into the Prats family which is how the Château came into the hands of Bruno Prats who managed Cos d'Estournel until 1998 when it was sold to the Taillan Group. His son Jean-Guillaume Prats has stayed on as general manager. In 2000 the estate was bought by Michel Reybier, and since 2004 the technical director has been Dominique Arangoits.

Saint-Estèphe, 2me cru classé. Château-bottled
"The accent is on the fruit in this vintage of Cos, along with a pronounced oak presence. Silky and supple on the palate, the wine seems perhaps a bit obvious and lacking in depth. Neither unpleasant nor inspiring. Tasted at the IMW Annual Claret Tasting in London", CC, November 2009
