Lot Essay

Besta Bestrizal's No Limit (Lot 2508) capture an imaginative scene akin to the imagining of science fiction. The artist's photorealist approach is grounded in photography where he first explore poses and creates posed scenario that is then processed as an image digitally, manipulated and added with elements that enables the artist to further a moral and oftentimes personal message. No Limit is titled in contradiction to the depicted image of a cyborg-boy immobilized by tape. The boy protagonist looks spent but the artist alludes to an optimism that is reflected in how he approaches his own life.
Ever since emerging onto the Indonesian contemporary art scene a few years ago, Besta Bestrizal has quickly captured the imagination of viewers who see in his cyborg protagonists a productive engagement between humanity, science and art.
