Lot Essay

These shoes, as well as lots 54 and 65, were exhibited in Daphne Guinness at the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2011. Although Daphne admits she was indecisive in deciding which pairs to donate for the sale, she wanted something from the exhibition to contribute to Isabella's foundation. All these pairs are of great importance to Daphne, since they were designed by her great friend and she has worn each pair with pride on countless occasions. Viewing them altogether, Daphne was reminded of McQueen's startling versatility. She has worn the pair in this lot quite recently in a film she made for GK Reid, 'Legend of Lady White Snake', which was dedicated to his memory.
