Lot Essay

"Eisenman's work is about power relationships and impotence, art and commerce, consumption and sex, about the possibilities that professionalism and amateurism provide, and about how artistic success and everyday life are constructed. At the same time, she addresses the question of how the individual in general, and she herself as artist and woman, can position themselves in these roles."
B. Ruf quoted in Nicole Eisenman, exh. cat., Kunsthalle Zürich, Zurich 2007, p. 5.
