Lot Essay

This is a close variant, believed by Vroom to be autograph, of a still-life by Claesz. in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich. The main differences being the lemon (lower left), which replaces a broken glass in the Munich painting, and the absence of broken walnuts on the table. We are grateful to Fred Meijer, of the RKD, The Hague, for suggesting a tentative attribution to Pieter van Berendrecht (Haarlem 1616-after 1662).
