Lot Essay

Paul Rotterdam grew up in the small Austrian town of Wiener Neustadt. He studied at the College of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna before gaining a PHD in Philosophy at the University of Vienna. He now lives in America operating from a studio in North Blenheim, New York. The present work is typical of his oeuvre and was once described by the artist as 'a classic example of Minimalism of the last decades of the 20th century'.
