Four cartouches include a title, dedication to the Dauphin, and signature A PARIS Chez le Sr N. BION Ingenieur du Roy pour les Instruments de Mathematiques. Sur le Quay de l'horloge de Palais Avec Privi. du Roy. 170, comprised of two sets of twelve half-gores and two polar calottes, graduated tropics equator and ecliptic, the constellations finely depicted with mythical beasts and figures, in wooden meridian ring bearing paper scale, octagonal horizon ring with engraved paper calendar with saints days, on four turned wooden legs united with cross-stretchers, other corners of octagonal horizon with turned finials
