Each covered with blue velvet bearing the monogram E R II beneath a crown, stamped 'W. HANDS & SONS LTD., 1953' and branded 'ER CORONATION', one with a label '467', the other '468'; Together with a selection of Coronation Memorabilia and the original cotton covers

By descent to the current owner from the daughter of Harold Sissons, Mayor of Umtata, South Africa, who attended the Coronation ceremony.

Lot Essay

W. Hands and Sons Ltd., a furniture make in High Wycombe were commissioned to make the chairs for Peers and Peeresses. The blue velvet upholstery was made at Listers Mills in Bradford, Yorshire. After the ceremony those who had occupied the chairs were given the opportunity to buy them.
