Lot Essay

Owley Farm is at Wittersham in Kent, between Tenterden and Rye. Nash and his wife rented a cottage at Owley for the summer of 1934 (Andrew Causey, Paul Nash, 1980, p. 245). In 1923, when he made this watercolour, the artist was living at Dymchurch on the Kent coast, about seven or eight miles east of Wittersham.
