Ann Todd (1909-1993) was an English actress and producer. Known as the 'pocket Garbo', she was made famous in Great Britain by films such as Perfect Strangers and the Seventh Veil. She starred opposite Gregory Peck in Hitchcock's Paradine Case in 1947. This painting depicts her as Madeleine Smith, the protagonist from the 1950 film Madeleine directed by David Lean, whom she married in in 1949.
