Château Ducru-Beaucaillou--Vintage 2005
Saint-Julien, 2me cru classé
"2005 provided textbook growing conditions from start to finish, with very sunny conditions that were warm but not hot. The year was particular both in the very large number of hours of sunshine but also by the very, very dry conditions that produced tiny berries and very concentrated fruit character. Because of the lack of excessive heat, the harvest could be timed for optimal ripeness of tannin, and it began on September 21st, continuing through October 6th,
The 2005 Ducru is a blend of two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and one third Merlot, matured in 87 new oak casks. The wine presents a super-ripe fruit character of blackberry and fig but also great complexity accented with savory notes and a hint of smoke and spice. On the palate the wine is rich and very long, with a supple, beautifully round texture. Wonderful! Dinner at Vin de Garde in Houston, October, 2010"
