Lot Essay

The folio's palette and calligraphy bears close resemblance to that elaborately lining the famed mihrab wall of the Jama Masjid of Bijapur, which is an immaculate example of Deccani art and architecture, built by the Adil Shahis after their victory over Vijaynagara in 1578.
