A LARGE PALE GREYISH-GREEN AND RUSSET JADE MOUNTAIN
17TH/18TH CENTURY
Of irregular upright section, one side is well carved in high relief with a scene of two scholars standing beneath a pine tree with undercut trunk. One scholar is pointing towards a crane grasping an arrow in its beak as it descends towards pavilions enveloped by swirling clouds above a wind-tossed sea. On the reverse steps are cut into the side of the mountain, and trees and lingzhi grow from crevices. There are areas of opaque buff color and russet mottling in the pale greyish-green stone.
