The bowl is raised on a short, slightly splayed foot, and has rounded sides rising to an everted rim. The well-polished, translucent stone is of an even white tone.

Lot Essay

A pair of white jade bowls of similar shape and size, dated 18th century, is illustrated by J. Rawson in Chinese Jade from the Neolithic to the Qing, British Museum, London, 1995, p. 400, no. 29:13. See, also, two white jade bowls of this shape and comparable size sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 29 May 2007, lot 1599 (6¾ in.) dated 18th century, and 27 May 2008, lot 1958 (5 7/8 in.), with Jiaqing marks and of the period.
