A VERY FINELY CARVED CAMEO AGATE SNUFF BOTTLE
SCHOOL OF ZHITING, SUZHOU, 1730-1850
The flattened, ovoid bottle is carved from stone of pale grey tone with sparse brown and amber markings ingeniously utilized to create a continuous scene of Mi Fu standing before a tall perforated rock formation oriented beneath an overhanging wutong branch that grows from the face of a cliff. Mi Fu is accompanied by his young attendant carrying a large fan.
