AN UNUSUAL CARVED RED LACQUER DOUBLE-GOURD VASE
18TH CENTURY
The vase is carved with an allover pattern of leafy vines bearing numerous double gourds that surround eight roundels bordered by ruyi heads. The four roundels on the upper body enclose the character da, and the four on the lower body the character ji to represent the phrase, da ji (great auspiciousness).
