AN UNDERGLAZE-BLUE-DECORATED YELLOW-GROUND 'DRAGON' DISH
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
The dish has shallow rounded sides and is decorated in underglaze blue on the interior with a five-clawed dragon leaping amidst clouds below similar dragons and clouds above, while five further dragons are shown amidst clouds on the exterior. The decoration is reserved on a ground of lemon-yellow color. There is an apochryphal Xuande mark on the base.
8 3/16 (21.1 cm.) diam.
