Lot Essay

A closely related settee (fig. 1) is in the Garvan Collection at Yale University Art Gallery and is illustrated in Patricia E. Kane, 300 Years of American Seating Furniture (New York, 1972), p. 249. Another similar example was sold at Sotheby's, New York, 29 January 1983, lot 419.
