The very similar scene, albeit mirrored, with figures almost identical to our present example, is ascribed to the artist Desi Das and attributed to Awadh circa 1770 (John Seyller, Eva and Konrad Seitz Collection of Indian Miniatures: Mughal and Deccani Paintings, Zurich, 2010, no. 28, pp.92-3).
