Lot Essay

It is probable that this series of Ragamala paintings originates from the same Lucknow studio as the Johnson Ragamala series now in the collection of the India Office Library and dated to circa 1780-82, (Album 44, Toby Falk and Mildred Archer, Indian Miniatures in the India Office Library, London, 1981, cat. no. 351.xxvii, p. 175).
