Lot Essay

The artist Sitaldas signed illustrated Ragamala folios previously in the Douce Collection, now held in the Bodleian Library, (MS. Douce Or. b.2.f.44 and 45); Klaus Ebeling, Ragamala Painting, Basel, Paris and New Delhi, 1973, no. 96, p. 214. Sitaldas is recorded as having worked for Richard Johnson in circa 1780.
