Engraved frontispiece, 4 double-page maps, 28 plates (of which 12 double-page) and 29 illustrations in the text, woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces. (Frontispiece, title and dedication lightly creased, light spotting, browning and staining throughout, a few leaves slightly frayed at edges with associated minor marginal tears and chips). Modern quarter calf over marbled-paper covered boards, vellum tips (extremities lightly rubbed). Wing O166; Cox I, 275: 'Although the title page reads "First Part," this volume is complete in itself.'
