Lot Essay

In the 1970s and early 1980s Barns-Graham executed a series of wave drawings in which she explored the rhythmic movement of the sea and its naturally occurring formations as witnessed from her Porthmeor beach studio.

'Her ability to render with an economy of line the complexities of natural form is no better demonstrated than in the series of drawings that took as their starting point the endless movement of the sea ...'(see L. Green, W. Barns-Graham: A Studio Life, Aldershot, 2001, p. 213).
