Lot Essay

The Roman marble original of circa 100 AD is in the collection of the Musée du Louvre, Paris.
One is illustrated in situ in the cast gallery at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York circa 1907, see the illustration accompanying lots 21 and 22 in this sale.
