Lot Essay

Winner of the Prix de Rome in 1942, the Grand Prix in 1936 and the 1941 Van Lerius prize amongst other accolades, Belgian born artist Lode Eykermans was a prolific sculptor with a prodigious artistic output. The present sculpture with its carefully attenuated forms and sinuosity of line, addresses the universal theme of motherhood recalling the work of fellow sculptor Henry Moore.

This work was cast by the Dirk de Groeve Foundry, Belgium.
