Lot Essay

Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) was a Milanese painter, sculptor, interior decorator, engraver of books; his output was truly prolific as during his career he designed over 11,000 works. Fornasetti became known for the variety in the production of objects and furniture and is celebrated as being among the most original creative talents of the twentieth century. Today, the Atelier Fonasetti in Milan carries on Fornasetti's legacy and continues to maintain his rigerous standards in both design and production; colour is applied by hand many of the original patterns are still followed. The modern designs produced by the atelier are referred to as 'Re-inventions', these are designs produced by his son, Barnaba Fornasetti who maintains the legacy of his acclaimed father.
