Lot Essay

The bust of Laocoon is after the 2nd century BC Greek original in the collections of the Vatican Museum, Rome.
The marble original 'Venus de Capua' is in the collection of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, Naples. Venus was the Roman incarnation of the ancient Greek goddess Aphrodite, goddess of love.
