The subject of Leda and the Swan was a popular motif in antiquity and also in the Neo-classical period. This cameo may have been inspired by the 16th century marble sculpture 'Leda with the Swan' by Ammanati Bartolomeo, Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence, Italy.
