Caspian Arts Foundation is a UK charity registered, not for profit arts and education organisation. Launched in 2011, an MA scholarship program was established at University of the Arts London for Middle Eastern & North African students. This scholarship awards financial aid to young aspiring artists to be able to complete their postgraduate studies in fine arts, film and photography. The charity's founding principle was realising the importance of the promotion of Middle Eastern cultures and the need for providing scholarships and support to its next generation of artists. By being able to offer these scholarships that perhaps were never previously available, the Foundation aspires to provide these students not only with financial assistance but also the right environment needed to learn and thrive from the unique experiences they will gain and the opportunities that will be presented to them along the way. The Middle Eastern arts market is continuously changing with its artists having to express the ever-changing world in which they inhabit and their relationship to it. This has put Middle Eastern contemporary arts on the map and on the rise. Through the scholarships and support being firmly put in place, Caspian Arts Foundation's overall vision is to be able to make its own contribution to bridging the gap between the East and West and helping these students to find their voice and express themselves. As this program is open to a wider region, no assumption can be made on the students that come on board. It is for this reason alone that makes the scholarship exciting and unique; all backgrounds in nationality, culture and belief systems are put aside in favour of sheer potential and talent. The charity hopes to inspire other organisations within the region to do the same. The Caspian Arts Foundation Scholarship was officially and successfully launched in January 2012 and received a multitude of applications from all over the MENA region. Following a set of criteria, the awards are given based on financial need as well as talent and capability. This year, through its selection panel, the top applicant being a young aspiring Palestinian artist, has been awarded a full MA scholarship to complete a two-year course in fine arts at Central Saint Martins. The charity's ongoing commitment is to increase the number of placements available at University of the Arts London each year and also to expand the scholarship program to other colleges specialising in specific areas such as fashion, the performing arts, curating, film & television. This will allow students a greater chance of being accepted at world class establishments and to be taught by the best in the industry. Caspian Arts Foundation is honored to partner with Christie's for its launch and fundraising event in London as well as offering the next six lots in this sale. By having this unique privilege, the Foundation has worked closely with Christie's and benefitted from their vital support, guidance and insight to be able to raise more awareness for our cause. We are grateful to have been recognised by The Third Line (Dubai), Leila Heller Gallery (New York), The Lisson Gallery (London) and ROPAC (Paris) and their artists for the large and important contributions they have each made to support the Foundation and by helping to give young aspiring artists this very unique opportunity. Caspian Arts Foundation was founded by Nina Mahdavi, born in Iran and based in London. Her views of incorporating unity into daily life and promoting the need for overcoming differences in the world we live in, regardless of nationality, religious or cultural background brought to her this great opportunity. The individual's ability to make a difference in the lives of others, however small, has been the underlying factor. The intention therefore has been placed on the process of bringing like-minded people together and opening the doors for Middle Eastern students, who never previously had the opportunity to live and learn in one of the most creative cities in the world and bringing one of the world's greatest art establishments to the Middle East. Caspian Arts Foundation was launched with the help of Art Garnett Advisory and University of the Arts London in 2010 and the crucial strategies and management of the Foundation were put in place with the help of Dina Nasser-Khadivi. The trustees and the Foundation's committee members have been vital to the charity moving forward, incorporating their ideas for fundraising abilities, and raising awareness through their fields respectively. Lot Essay

Jinchi's work is deeply rooted in her Persian heritage yet her works are undeniably very contemporary, leaning towards abstract expressionism. She deconstructs Persian calligraphy and meticulously manipulates it on her work's support in order to produce harmonious abstract compositions of intricate and interlaced patterns. By doing so, Jinchi strips bare the words and letters from their function and meaning, as the text becomes undecipherable for any viewer. This absence of meaning, usually given by the text, generates a sense of meditation on the relation between letters and forms and their transcending spiritual power. As calligraphic elements are transformed into lyrical visual motifs in Jinchi's pictorial universe, her drawings hence become maps of faith and platforms for the act of prayer.
