Lot Essay

Jean-Jacques Pothier, maître in 1750

The present armchair is en suite with a set of seat furniture, formerly in the collection of Henry Ford II, sold Christie's New York, November 12 1981, lot 215. This suite was purchased by Lily & Edmund J. Safra and was sold again at Sotheby's, New York, 3 November 2005, lot 172. The suite comprised a set of six fauteuils à la Reine and a canape, and had been exhibited at the Exhibition International du Cadre du XV au XX Siecle, Galerie Georges Petit, Paris, April 1931, lot 214. It appears that it was purchased at that time by Henry Ford II.
