Lot Essay

For a very similar gold roundel from Ziwiye, cf., K. R. Maxwell-Hyslop, Western Asiatic Jewellery, c. 3000-612 B.C., London, 1971, p. 210, pl. 173b. The motif of the lion head with two bodies can also be found on a gold plaque from Ziwiye, cf., Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin, March 1955, p. 216.
