Lot Essay

PUBLISHED:
Bolynton: A Historical and Archaeological Study of Little Bollington, South Trafford Archaeological Group, 1994, p. 48.

The head was analysed by Martin Petch of The Manchester Museum, who commented: 'The stone head has undoubtedly been carved in a manner and tradition consistent with what have been termed Celtic heads. The simplicity and crudity of execution with exaggerated features on a free-standing, life-sized head are hallmarks of the type.'
