Lot Essay

Ogawa Teikan (art name Shiho) (1828-c.1898) was the son of Motosada of Mito and is a highly regarded sword fittings maker. Like many other metal workers he made other things besides sword fittings, particularly after the Hatorei regulation of 1876 which banned the wearing of swords.
